The Division of Small Animal Internal Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Liège, Belgium, offers a position for a Resident in small animal internal medicine, starting September 15, 2021.
This residency position implies a 3-year-minimum training programme structured according to the guidelines of, and approved by, the ECVIM-CA. Candidates should have successfully completed a one year rotating internship programme (or at least two years of experience in small animal practice).
They should have a good knowledge of the French language, and be willing to improve these language skills as needed to efficiently communicate with our patients’ owners and referring veterinarians. Only highly motivated candidates are invited to apply!
About the Position
The programme is under supervision of 4 ECVIM-CA diplomates in Internal Medicine, as well as 1 ECVIM-CA diplomate in Cardiology. Numerous Diplomates of other European Colleges are available on site. The resident will take primary responsibility for small animal Internal Medicine cases. He/she will be scheduled to take part in the primary emergency duty roster of the Hospital. The resident will be involved in clinical teaching to students, and will be partially responsible for advising interns. External rotations are part of the programme.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Liège is situated outside of the city centre on a hilly slope which represents the start of the beautiful Ardennes. The University has a well-equipped and brand new beautifull hospital: intensive care unit, digital X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, endoscopy (gastrointestinal, respiratory and cystoscopy), urethral pressure profilometry, …. Caseload for small animals is around 10000 cases a year. The actual team includes diplomates in internal medicine (4 Dipl. ECVIM-CA), in cardiology (1 ECVIM-Cardiology), surgery (5 Dipl. ECVS), emergency and critical care (1 Dipl. ECVECC), diagnostic imaging (3 Dipl. ECVDI), dermatology (1 Dipl. ECVD), reproduction (1 Dipl. ECAR), ophthalmology (2 Dipl. ECVO) and nutrition (1 Dipl. ECVN).
