ECVIM-CA Resident in Small Animal Medicine

Highcroft Veterinary Referrals are opening an ECVIM-CA accredited residency position in Internal Medicine to start in Spring 2021. 

About Us:

The Internal Medicine Department currently comprises four senior clinicians. The referral team also includes one oncologist, four surgeons (orthopaedic and soft tissue) and two surgery residents, three anaesthetists, two diagnosticimagers, three neurologists and one neurology resident, one dermatologist, two ophthalmologists, seven discipline specific interns and an excellent referral nursing team. All disciplines are specialist led. 

The hospital is very well equipped with recent on-site facilities including MRI scanner, CT scanner, abdominal and cardiac ultrasound scanners, digital radiography, C-arm fluoroscopy, brand new dedicated endoscopy suite (1.4m gastroscope, 2m colonoscope, bronchoscope, flexible cystoscope as well as rigid scopes), EMG, cystomanometry & urethral profilometry

The Role:

This 3-year residency program includes 65-70% time on-clinics having primary responsibility on clinical cases, the remainder being divided between externships, research and paper writing. Participation to the emergency service will be done on a shared rota basis (no more than 1-in 4 week nights and 1-in-4 weekends on call, averaging over twelve months). The resident will also be expected to present research work at Scientific Congresses and be involved in CPD events for first opinion vets. Particular attention will be paid on meeting credentials criteria to sit the ECVIM-CA certifying examination at the end of the residency program. 

Candidate Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate strong interest in Small Animal Internal Medicine and experience in Referral-level Hospitals with high communication skills to clients and colleagues. Applicants must be at least 2 years graduated and should have completed a 12-month Small Animal Rotating Internship. Significant time spent in a first opinion setting is highly desirable. Experience in performing and presenting research would be beneficial as demonstration of prior commitment to career development. The candidate should be proficient speaking and writing in the English language and should ensure that she/he is able to work in the United Kingdom before applying. 

Employment requires membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
