Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Small Animal Internal Medicine - Academic Track

The School of Veterinary Science at Massey University, New Zealand invites applications for a permanent academic position in small animal medicine.

Facilities include flexible and rigid endoscopy, digital radiology and ultrasound, and in-house CT. MRI examinations are carried out at a nearby human imaging practice. The hospital maintains a full suite of in-house diagnostic laboratory equipment, and shares a building with NZVP, a full service diagnostic laboratory owned and operated by IDEXX. Patient care is provided 24/7 by a dedicated team of ER veterinarians and nurses, supported by 2.0 FTE board-certified critical care specialists.

As a successful candidate, you will spend approximately 50% of your time providing internal medicine services to the clients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). We have a team of 2 FTE internal medicine clinicians, one specialist in Clinical Nutrition and two residents. You will be expected to develop a programme of research and contribute to the wider scholarly activities of the Companion Animal Group. About 30% of the position is protected for research. If you do not hold a higher degree (e.g. PhD), you may be able to enrol in a higher degree programme with the approval of the Management Group Leader and Head of School. The remaining 20% of the position is for leave, reviewing teaching materials, service and some teaching not covered while 'on clinics'.

You must possess a veterinary degree immediately registerable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand. You will have a strong service focus, both towards clients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and towards our veterinary, veterinary technology, and postgraduate students. In addition, you will show initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication and team skills. You must either hold a specialist qualification in small animal medicine or be eligible to sit examinations to attain a specialist qualification. Experience in small animal medicine at the referral level is essential.
