Locum Opportunity – Cardiology

The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), is seeking Locums in Cardiology for the period of May 1st – December 21st, 2018.  Scheduling blocks of time will be determined in consultation with the Chair, Clinical Studies. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, and must be a diplomate of the American or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in Cardiology (DACVIM/DECVIM - Cardiology). A protective rabies titre is required.  The ideal candidate should have a strong background in teaching, interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere is essential. The locum will be expected to be available for all aspects of clinical service in the cardiology section, including receiving primary appointments, providing internal consultations to other services, receiving cases from the emergency service, and supervising Cardiology residents in all of the above. On call responsibilities are covered by residents on service under supervision of the cardiology clinician on duty. Other duties include writing discharge reports for cases seen, editing/approval of resident medical record discharge reports and fielding cardiology advice calls from referring veterinarians.

The OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) has a full spectrum of specialists available for consultation or support including a fully staffed 24/7 Intensive Care Unit. The veterinary hospital and research laboratories offer state of the art diagnostic equipment including but not limited to point-of-care hemostasis assessment (TEG, PFA-100, Multiplate, Stago coagulometer, Actalvke), echocardiography unit (GE Vivid E90), minimally invasive suite (Philips Veradius C-arm), 1.5 Tesla high field GE MRI, CT, digital radiology, PACS system, GE ECG, and in-house Pathfinder Holter analysis system. The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC-HSC are committed to delivering the very best of patient care.
