Dear colleagues and members,

Time is flying, as always, and the next ECVIM-CA congress will arrive very soon. The European College of Veterinary Pathology (ECVP) will join the congress which will take place in Lisbon (Portugal) from Thursday 10th until Saturday 12th September 2015. As has been the case for many years now, ESVIM will again have a combined programme with the International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Diseases (ISCAID).

This year, we have decided to focus on neurological diseases. We will start with lectures on mechanisms of entry of pathogens into the central nervous system (CNS) and the defence mechanisms of the CNS against those pathogens. Other lectures will then focus on new aspects of several viral agents with neurotropism, such as Distemper and feline infectious peritonitis, as well as protozoal infections of the neuromuscular system. Non-infectious neurological disease will also be discussed such as steroid responsive meningitis arteritis and other meningoencephalitides of unknown aetiology as well as updates on the therapy of canine and feline epilepsy. Oral ESVIM and ISCAID abstracts will be presented on Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning respectively. As usual, we will also have poster presentations from both ESVIM and ISCAID on view throughout the duration of congress.

The ESVIM Annual General Meeting (AGM) is planned on Friday 11th at 13h20 in the same room as the ESVIM-ISCAID lectures and we would welcome your attendance.

The ESVIM is looking for a new secretary. If you are interested in that position, please send me your application with a short curriculum vitae before the 15th of August 2015. Feel free to contact me for more information.

Don’t hesitate to visit our website (http://www.european-society-of-veterinary-internal-medicine.com) in which you can find information such as the board composition, the previous newsletters, membership application form and a reading list of articles on respiratory disease in small animals. Some of this information is only available for consultation by the ESVIM members.

I look forward to seeing you all in Lisbon.
